Mission: Kids

With a heart for the next generation, we lock arms with parents in the foundational years of their children’s lives for the purpose of sowing gospel seeds that will one day blossom into a life of faithfulness to Christ. Through our Sunday morning ministry, we are committed to serving the families and children of MBC.

Here’s how.

EVANGELIZE.

The church is called to take the gospel into the world and share the hope of Jesus with every person (Mt. 28:18–20; Lk. 24:46–47). We are committed to evangelizing the lost, which includes children (Acts 2:39). We pursue this in two ways:

  • We understand that a child’s greatest need is regeneration because children are dead in sin and without hope of salvation (Rom. 3:23, Eph. 2:1-3). Yet, children, as well as adults, can receive forgiveness of sins, a relationship with God, and purpose in life through trusting in Christ as Lord and Savior (Rom. 10:9–13). This reality is the cornerstone of our ministry to children as their greatest need for the gospel is our greatest opportunity for eternal impact (Rom. 10:14–16).

Therefore, we aim for heart preparation as we cultivate the soil of children’s hearts for the sowing of gospel seeds. This includes teaching children the fear of God, humility over weakness, penitence over sin, facts about the gospel, and an appreciation for Christ and His Word. Furthermore, since salvation is of the Lord, we avoid soliciting salvation professions but encourage the fruit of genuine repentance as demonstrated through a life of submission to Christ’s lordship.

  • As those who have to come to a saving knowledge of Christ, we desire for each child to experience the same transformative power of the gospel in their lives. For our team, it is not merely about entertaining you children for an hour. We are committed to bringing the gospel to every child and investing in the spiritual development of the next generation as they grow through these formative years. We are invested for the long haul.

ENGAGE.

While never compromising on truth, we aim to present God’s Word to children in an understandable way that fills them with awe and brings to life true excitement for Scripture as they learn more about their Creator. We do this task through two avenues:

  • Mission: Kids utilizes the Generations of Grace curriculum in our Sunday morning ministry. In the Generations of Grace Sunday school curriculum, children are lead through the narrative of Scripture, from Genesis through Revelation, outlining God’s redemptive plan. Each year the curriculum covers a different part of Scripture. Over the nine-year period a child spends, Generations of Grace will lead that child through God’s redemptive plan three times, each at a deeper level.

Generations of Grace curriculum is set up as a “unified curriculum” for this very reason. Every week, children in each age range learn from the same passage of Scripture in a way that is appropriate for their respective age levels. A unified curriculum enables families to discuss one passage together each week, reinforcing the lesson children have learned in Sunday School.

  • Through events such as the Family Book Reading Fellowship and VBS, we strive to take every opportunity we can to engage children with key truths found in the Bible. For more information on upcoming events, see the Events page.

ENCOURAGE.

The church is to edify and encourage parents in their God given task of raising godly children. This is clearly implied through the household commands (Col. 3:18–21) and the church’s mandate to equip and encourage believers (Eph. 4:12–16).

  • One way that we provide encouragement and support is through offering quality childcare and instruction so that parents can attend worship services, classes or other ministry events undistracted. While this is not meant to substitute the ongoing in-home training that is to be happening daily, it is to be a supplement that brings help to the families of MBC.

  • Pastoral guidance and support are vital to encouraging the parents at MBC. Striving to shepherd the flock in every avenue of life, the pastoral staff, and particularly the Family Pastor, is wholly devoted to locking arms with parents in the task of raising and releasing the next generation of faithful Christ-followers.

Our Mission

Support parents. lay A gospel foundation.

Mission: Kids includes children from birth through elementary (nursery–5th grade). Our mission is clear: evangelize, engage, and encourage. Because Scripture is clear that parents are the primary disciple-makers in the lives of their children, our hope is to partner with parents in their pursuit of raising and releasing faithful disciples. We do this by working to build a strong, gospel-centered foundation for children, teaching them about the nature and character of God—that He is wise, generous, loving, and good. Our desire is to support with parents by creating environments and utilizing curriculum and resources that center on the gospel of Jesus Christ. On the weekends, in Mission: Kids, we worship through song, and teach the Bible to the kids.

FAMILY MINISTRIES

You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, & training them up in God’s fear, & minding the house, & making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts.
